Newly Launched Ironbark Apis Global Small Companies Fund Awarded Initial Rating of ‘Recommended’ by Zenith Investment Partners.
Following the launch of the Ironbark Apis Global Small Companies Fund (the ‘Fund’) in partnership with US-based investment manager, Apis Capital Advisors (‘Apis’) on 31 January 2022, Ironbark Asset Management (‘Ironbark’) is pleased to announce the Fund has been awarded an initial rating of ‘Recommended’ by Zenith Investment Partners (‘Zenith’). An outcome underpinned by Zenith’s conviction that the Fund “has a high probability of meeting its stated investment objectives” and, “scores highly across most of Zenith’s key areas of assessment.”
The Fund aims to outperform the MSCI ACWI Small Cap Index AUD (after fees) over 5 to 7 years. To achieve this objective, Apis employs a fundamental approach that looks to “connect the dots” across borders and industries, leveraging their 30 years of investment experience to construct a long-only portfolio of quality small-cap companies with high growth potential.
Zenith’s report noted, “Apis’ portfolio construction technique is intuitive and follows a logical framework” and stated the Fund is managed by a “highly experienced portfolio management team that has demonstrated an ability to produce attractive risk-adjusted return outcomes over the long term.”
Ironbark’s Head of Funds Management, Alex Donald commented, “Since its launch in January 2020, the strategy has delivered an exceptional net return of approximately 38% (AUD)1 to January 2022 and in light of a growing appetite for global small companies across institutional and wholesale investors, we’re delighted to bring this stand-out capability to the Australian market. To receive a Zenith ‘Recommended’ rating so soon after our Fund launch, further affirms the quality of Apis’ global small-cap solution.”
The Fund largely replicates the long positions of Apis’ ‘Flagship’ strategy, a global long/short capability that has been in operation since the firm’s inception in 2004. This is the underlying strategy of the Apis Global Long/Short Fund, Ironbark’s existing solution in partnership with Apis which is also ‘Recommended’ by Zenith.
